Washington D.C. and a little NFL...

We made a goal to see and do as much as possible while living out East. That being said, we took a quick trip down to D.C. the end of August.  We had gotten some tickets to watch a family friend play in a Saturday night Redskins game, and decided to make a weekend out of it.  Unfortunately, Mitch's sister, Danielle, who lives in Alexandria, VA was in Utah so we weren't able to see them, but they were nice enough to let us stay at their place.  Thank you, thank you, thank you Browns!

Day one started out walking on the National Mall, followed by a trip to the Air and Space Museum.  Our kids loved it!  They enjoyed seeing all the planes, space suits, and space shuttles.  Their favorite was the "How things Fly" exhibit.  It had a bunch of hands on science experiments that showed you why airplanes fly.  Imagine a ball suspended in the air, not attached to anything, just a fan blowing on it about three feet below.  I guess you had to be there.

After a fun-filled morning, we had the pleasure of meeting up with the Moore's for some Cafe Rio on the Washington Monument lawn.  Sure, we could have ordered something D.C.-ish, but we were craving the Rio.  I mean, what's better than Cafe Rio with Blake and Jane?!  Not much.

Our next stop, FedEx Field to watch the Redskins play!

We were excited when we found out that our family friend, Bryan Kehl, was playing for the Washington Redskins.  We'd finally get to watch him play!  We had fun sitting next to the Kehl family and some friends from home for the afternoon.  Nancy played grandma to Remmy, letting her suck on all her jewelry, and Gary bought our kids cotton candy "from grandpa Matt".  Our kids had a blast and really enjoyed the game...and the snacks.  

Finnley was LOVING the wave.  She would watch it go around, and then joyfully join in when it was our turn.  Meanwhile, Remmy snoozed through the whole thing.  

Day two started out back on the National Mall (we actually got our same parking spot....imagine that!).  We walked through the WWII Memorial first, where our kids enjoyed wading in the water next to the "Please no wading in the water" sign.  Whoopsie.

Each of theses stars represents 100 people that died serving in World War II.

Next stop was the Lincoln Memorial, one of my favorites.

Vietnam War Memorial

On our way to the White House, followed by the Natural History Museum.  Baby in the bijorn and two kids in the BOB...that's how we roll.  This was about the point our kids started losing it.  There was some crying, maybe some hitting, and definitely some over-heating.  The museum, and its AC, was being highly anticipated.

The museums were definitely our kids favorite.  They loved seeing all of the animals, and touching every display.  My favorite was the "Best Pictures from National Geographic".  The photos were AMAZING!  This was by far my favorite Natural History museum I've been too.  The way the animals were set up was awesome, and there was so much to do and look at, but it wasn't overwhelming.  Definite to-do with kiddos, or by yourself.

Last, but not least, we had a delicious Sunday dinner courtesy of Blake and Jane.  Think freshly caught halibut, and salmon (by Blake himself), corn on the cob, rosemary roasted potatoes, and more.  It was a great, quick trip and we can't wait to go back...this time, hopefully, while the Browns are in town!
