I wanna see whales...

Finnley really wanted to see whales. We'd seen a few from shore, but they were so far away she only really saw the water spray up from the ocean. We decided to do a little snorkel trip, and cross our fingers we saw some whales at the same time. First we went out to Molikini crater. Our kids were champs and both got in the water with us. We just pushed Dieter around in his little floaty while we snorkeled. It was fun watching his chubby little feet kick and dance around under the water. Finn wasn't the biggest fan of the snorkel mask, so we switched her into her normal goggles and it worked out great. She'd take a big, deep breath and look under the water. She spotted "lots of black fish and a yellow one".

After Molikini, we headed to Turtle Town. On the ride over, one of the crew gave us a little lesson on what we might see. She showed us pictures of the humuhumunukunukuapua fish and talked about its coloring and blue nose. When we arrived, the four of us jumped in the water and I was thrilled when Finnley spotted a "humie humie fish" under the water. We also saw a turtle and followed it for a while. It was fun sharing the experience with my brave little three year old.

On the way back to shore, I was a little disappointed we hadn't seen any whales. That is, after-all, the main reason we took this little day trip. Right then, our captain came on and informed us that there were two whales in the area that had been submerged for almost twenty minutes and were sure to come up to the surface at anytime. Not five minutes later, two humpback whales surfaced about fifty yards away. Finnley was right there watching with amazement. They gave us a great show, and our little lady was satisfied.
