Sunday we woke up to the most gorgeous day yet. After church, we decided we were going to drive the road to Hana. We gave ourselves a turn around point if our kids weren't cooperating, but decided we'd do the whole thing if they were being happy. Well, since they slept all but about 45 minutes on the way there, we made it! They were so good, and it was the most amazing drive. We've done it twice, but only made it part way, and then turned around. This time we went all the way to the Seven Sacred Pools, and even continued driving around the island (you know, the part on the the rental car map that says "Do Not Drive Past this Point"...whoops!)
We were greeted by a misty rain and a gorgeous Hawaiian rainbow.

We took the half mile hike down to the pools, and couldn't resist taking a dip. I mean, come on, when are we going to do this drive again? Probably not for a while. The kids were good sports and swam in the cold water with us. Finnley even got some guts and did a little five foot cliff jump. So proud.

Dieter was content just sitting on the side of the pools throwing in the gravel and rocks he was finding. He was a dirty mess, but we cleaned him off with another cool dip in the fresh water.

The rest of the drive was just as amazing as the first half. It was a dirt road and kind of bumpy, but so worth it. As we drove around the island, the sun was setting. We were in awe. Our kids loved the scenery, and saying "hi" to the occasional cow blocking the road.

Mitch walked out onto this ledge thinking it was a grassy hill. When his foot fell into the ground, he realized it was only part grass, and then a steep cliff. What he thought was grass was really tree tops. That was a close one. ;)

If you haven't already, I would definitely recommend saving a day to do the road to Hana, and finish off the loop around Maui. Such beautiful and diverse environments. We loved it!

We did that too! I loved it! The only downer was that the 7 sacred pools were closed for some reason (as in seriously roped off) when we were there so it was kind of a bummer that we didn't get to swim in them. We drove all the way around the island too which was awesome! I would so do it again!
