God Bless America!

There's nothing like a small town 4th of July celebration to really make you appreciate the freedoms we enjoy living in this country. We spent this 4th up in Oakley, UT, and for some reason it seems like they are more in tune with what it means to be an American than some other places I've celebrated. Maybe its the parade full of Rodeo Queens, small town bands and drill teams, Grand Marshalls, or the Patriotic Program featuring patriotic songs and a tribute to all past and present Army, Coast Guard, Marine, Air force and Navy servicemen. They don't seem to be obsessed with money, celebrity, or the world. Instead they focus on this beautiful land we live in. We had a fun and memorable weekend and we really are proud to be Americans! We watched the Oakley parade - a highlight of the celebrations - and cheered on the many homemade floats, horses, and pooper-scoopers that filed by. Mitch helped Rye collect an entire bag full of smarties, nerds, taffys, gum, and lots of other delicious treats! My parents and Layne waving their flagsBy the end of the Parade, Finnley was exhausted and quietly conked out on Dad's shoulder.
Mitch and Tuscan floating down the Weber River! Tuscan loves the cabin and LOVED the river!I just nailed my bootie on a rock...ouch!grandpa Matt floating the river
Saylor hanging out on the banks of the river. She is such a cute little girl.
Finnley's First rodeo! Mitch took her right over to the bull-riding shoots and even put her on her first horse.
Matt and Jan
We had to snap this shot of the beautiful sunset at the Oakley Rodeo!
She was all cowgirled-up in her cowgirl shirt and jeans. You're looking at a future rodeo queen folks!
We also had fun giving the little girls pedicures and Amy painted fireworks and red, white, and blue polka dots on their toes. Finn even got in on the pedicures...notice her cute little red toes!

Rodeos are one of those things I TOTALLY miss about living out west. I don't think New Englander's do rodeos -- but they will do a Nascar limo...
